The power of nature can be very ugly
if your goods are the ones that prove it. Most of us have only seen the
destructions caused by nature on our television screens or websites. But
the people who have been the real victims of the nature’s wrath are
really frightened to repeat the story. Some of the people have stopped
relying on the maritime industry because their precious goods are now at
the bottom of the ocean. The fate of the huge ship that we have so
fondly seen in the cinemas titled the "Titanic” has not been a single
one. Unfortunately a lot of cargo ships of the modern age also have
suffered the horrible fate and goods worth millions of dollars now lay
scattered on the ocean’s floor.
The biggest test of the transport
ships of today is the fight nature. The sea storms fill the ship’s
cargo holds as if it were merely a piece of sponge. As the ship’s cargo
holds are filled with water, the goods inside it are damaged beyond
repair and there is nothing that can be done. The only way to prevent
such a terrible fate of the ship and the goods it carries is to check
tightness of hatch with ultrasound
before the ship sets sail. This test can clearly determine the
reliability of the ship in case it encounters a sea storm during its
voyage. The only reason we have so many failed deliveries today is the
lack of testing before the harm is done.
A ship’s condition can
only be perfect or not, there is not third option because then, the
damage to the goods has already been inflicted and claims are filed
against the damages. The maritime industry pays up to a million dollars
annually against damages incurred to the goods on board. The claims that
are filed by the angry customers not only represent a loss of future
customer, but it also eats away a huge chunk of the company’s profits.
In order to avoid the bad reputation and save the company from losses,
most of the shipping companies are now emphasizing on regular
hatch cover ultrasonic tightness testing.
The maintenance staff is ordered to run a scheduled test which would
ensure that the ships remain safe for travel. The companies who have
made it a habit to test their ship’s for leaks regularly are the ones
securing the highest positions. They have a maximum number of customers
and reap the highest profits every month.
