One of the oldest materials used in
the manufacturing faculties is none other than water. It is used in many
different forms in the factories such as cleaning, washing, mixing and
wherever applicable. Since it is a universal solvent, there are no
limits to how many places it can be utilized. Since the factories of
today have expanded to a huge area and the production levels have
multiplied over time, there is a huge need of bigger storage tanks to
meet the daily requirements. The huge tanks are capable to store
thousands of gallons of water and the measurement of these tanks has
become a bigger problem than before hence the need for a
liquid level indicator is ever more than before.
In
the past when the tanks were small and were mostly comprised of a
couple of small storage drums, they could be measured by opening the lid
and taking a look inside. As the needs of the factories grew, these
storage drums became larger in size until they became a fairly big sized
storage tank. In the early days the tanks were measured by the
suspended chain. When the tank was needed to be measured, the chain
which was suspended by a pulley on top of the tank would be lowered
inside it through the lid. As it hit the bottom of the tank, the chain
was again pulled out and the height to which it was wet was noted as the
liquid level inside the tank.
This method soon became outdated
when the tank’s size grew even bigger. The bigger sized tanks posed a
threat to security of the person who would climb to the top and open the
lid. As the tanks were able to store more water than two swimming
pools, if the person who climbed to the top and opened the lid lost his
balance and fell inside, there was a huge chance that he would have
drowned. And cases like these have happened in the past a lot of times
which was the reason to rule out the practice.
Today as the
storage tanks are much bigger than ever, they are like small dams, the
need for safer measuring devices was needed even more. The
ultrasonic level indicator
is the best option for measuring huge tanks because when measuring with
it there is no need to open any lid or to let the liquid come in
contact with the device. The ultrasonic waves by pass the walls of the
container and measures the liquid’s level inside. The speed at which the
entire process is completed makes it even more beneficent to the
factories where speed is the most important aspect.
