Transporting petrol and diesel to the
petrol stations is one of the most important businesses today. The world
cannot move if the petrol pumps are out of petrol and diesel as every
car requires fuel to even start. The trucks that are responsible to
transport the fuel to stations are very heavily built and powerful
enough to carry tons of loads. But carrying this weight without proper
knowledge is a waste because it will be more of a loss than profit. The
process to send the huge amount of fuel to a destination begins with the
analysis of the demand of that area. Using a
liquid level indicator
the rightful amount is measured and loaded in the truck’s container. A
record is made and one copy is handed over to the driver which he shows
to the customer awaiting the supply.
Petroleum liquids are
constantly puffing out fumes and in the form of these fumes they are
evaporating pretty fast. This is the reason the tankers have to be
completely air tight so that the liquids would not evaporate during the
transportation journey. A slight margin of loss is mentioned on the slip
that is produced from the refinery. Since refineries are located
outside the cities, the journey from it to the petrol stations is quite
long. Due to the heavy load of the tons of liquid inside the tanker, it
has to travel at snail’s pace and the delivery takes a fairly long time
to complete. It could even take days to complete the long journey and
reach the destination.
Once the tanker arrives at the petrol
station, the paperwork is verified and the amounts of petroleum liquids
that have been ordered are started unloading into the underground tanks.
The amount of liquid being unloaded needs to be measured so that there
would be no mistake. The tanks have a level marking inscribed on the
walls which allow the staff to learn about the level the liquid has
reached. But for more precise measurement the
ultrasonic level indicator
is used which points out accurately and lets the staff know about even a
liter if it falls more or less. Since the fumes rise upwards in a very
large quantity the staff is required to wear protective masks so that
they would not be harmed by the strong fumes. Once the required level is
unloaded, the papers are signed and the tanker is forwarded to another
location until it is completely emptied and then begins its journey back
to the refinery.
