Features of Marine CO2 and CO2 Fire Suppressing System
CO2 is considered to be the most common fixed firefighting system, popularly used by the industries all over the world. It is commonly available installed on the board of ships to fight back in case of fire. This system releases CO2 in massive amount to the protected spaces they are installed in such as cargo hold, engine room and pump room and purifier room in situation of fire. It helps in smothering the fire and prevents it to spread and oxygen is need for fire to carry out its chemical reaction, which is made impossible on the release of Carbon Dioxide. CO2 & Marine CO2 Systems consist of several cylinders, which are loaded with this compressed CO2 gas, which helps to fight in case the fire gets out of control. Though it is considered to be a fire extinguisher but carelessness towards its operation can cause some serious issues for which it is important to take of the entire system really carefully. Most of the time, whenever the system is installed on the board of ship, it is considered to allocate a single person or calculated number of people to operate and take care of the system in order to avoid any sort of issues which may be faced in future due to carelessness. Generally, it is counted to be the last option to fight fire as it causes suffocation, which is really hazardous for the people around. It is even considered to take care of the entire system off and on, especially when leaving on the journey as the minor releases may result into any of the following mentioned below:
  • The installed system may not work in case of emergency when it is needed the most.
  • The minor leakage in the CO2 System room may result into suffocation due to which someone may die especially people with suffocation.
With the time, Marine CO2 system, which is installed in ships does not work at time of emergency. What may be the cause of the following situation? Why we find no compressed CO2 in gas cylinders? Why the amount is low? These may be the questions that come to your mind in case of the situation when your fire extinguishing system was not able to work. This may have results as a massive loss or unusual or unexpected delay in the business. What can help you to avoid this situation? Well, there is a simplest answer or solution to these entire unexpected situations - Ultrasonic leak detector. This helps in measuring the cylinders and its width. It makes sure that the cylinders or tanks are not corroded from any point, which can result in leakage. Most importantly, it is considered that a separate room should be maintained for CO2 Fire Extinguishing System so that proper care should be maintained. This can help you take care of the system without any mistake.
