Different uses of an ultrasonic level indicator
The level of liquids in small quantities can be easily measured or evaluated through observation but when the measurement of liquids is required on large scale such as industries, it requires proper and precise measuring of the liquids or other media. The containers or vessels are gigantic and one cannot open them without taking proper safety measures and precautions. For this purpose, different types of liquid level indicators are used for measuring and monitoring of the liquid levels which is necessary for smooth and regular working of the industrial functions.

One of the most latest and advanced method of achieving accurate and standard levels is to make use of ultrasonic level indicator. It is one of the easiest ways of monitoring and managing the precise and standard liquid levels in different industries and plants. This method is highly recommended and used due to its high functionality and health friendly properties.

Different applications and usage
  • It is used for the measurement of caustic liquid chemicals in chemical industry that cannot be directly opened due to safety purposes and require precautions.
  • It is used for the detection of fluids in standing pipes especially in those pipes which are investigated and opened for maintenance.
  • It is used for measuring the level of fuels in automotive components for example in oil tankers carrying furnace oil or petrol, transmission assemblies etc.
  • It is considered perfect for measuring different layers of fluid on top of each other or second layer. For example, in the petroleum industry, the ultrasonic level indicator is used to measure the oil layer over the water layer.
  • It is also used in the fire extinguishing department and industry to measure the level of cooling agents in the cylinders and sprinklers systems.
  • Some factors which can affect the performance of the ultrasonic level indicators are;
  • The corroded or pitied container or vessel walls can cause distractions in the sound pulses which get back to the transmitter, altering measurements.
  • A sharp curvature of the container can also results in distorted sound pulses hence changing measurement figures.
  • The path of the sound waves emitted from ultrasonic device if obstructed by some obstructions such as pipe fills or baffles, can cause false measurements.
  • The liquid’s acoustic properties can also effect the ultrasonic measurements.
  • It is essential to maintain the constant temperature levels otherwise it may also alter the sound velocity of the liquid providing inaccurate readings.
  • Various other factors such as foam, bubbles, steam or turbulence on the surface of the liquid can also results in altering the accurate measurement of the liquid level through ultrasonic level indicators.
It is better to take into account all such factors and remove them before measuring the liquid level through ultrasonic device only then it will provide you with precise and accurate liquid level measurements. Otherwise it would lead towards inaccurate and faulty measurement which could result in some accident or problems.
