Whenever we are on a highway passing through the green fields on both sides of the well carpeted road which urges us to push the pedal to metal, we often see factories located at a distance too. The huge factories cover many acres of land and even though they are a few kilometers away from the main road, they seem to be pretty close due to their huge size spanning over such a huge area. Ever wondered why they need to be so huge and why they need to be over such a vast area? Surely not every factory builds airplanes or the massive ships that can carry dozens of F-16s on a single deck.

There is a fair reason for the factory to stretch over a huge land due to the nature of the products being manufactured there and more importantly the safety reasons. Since the last decade factories have undergone a massive change in the way they operated and the way they were built. Due to the increase in the population, a massive change has been observed in the products that are available in the market. It all came into being after the factories changed their way of production and the internal design too. Today a variety of chemicals and liquids are being used in the factories which were never used before and a majority of these liquids are highly toxic and inflammable soluble. They can be fatally dangerous to the humans and have to be stored at a safe distance but within the factory as keeping them outside would increase the cost of delivering them to the production lines.

These liquids are stored in strongly built single skinned containers which are monitored with the help of the portable ultrasonic liquid level indicator. As the touch of these liquids can be fatal to a human being, it is necessary to keep them in the single skinned containers where they have no chance to escape even if an earthquake comes and splashes the liquids forcibly inside their containers. These sensitive liquids also need to be kept in controlled environments so the storage area is usually covered and sheltered to block out the extreme temperatures.

Apart from these highly sensitive liquids the factories also keep a huge stock of water which is used in many different applications where cleaning is on top of the list. The water reservoir is fitted with a standard liquid level indicator because there is nothing of much concern with the water. The only thing to emphasize with the huge amount of water is the tank which needs to be placed at a height and at a safe distance so that an overflow wouldn’t flood the entire factory. This and some other reasons have forced the factories to grow huge and span over many acres of land.
