Maintaining Liquid Levels in Huge Production Units
Some of the biggest changes in the history of industry have affected the production ways to a great extent. Unlike the past, new formulas have been discovered to make the same type of products but with cheaper input. The biggest change can be counted as the introduction of liquids during the different phases of productions. This huge change in the production styles and techniques has made it necessary for every production unit to have flawless liquid level indicator attached to every liquid storage tank. Since the factories can easily consume hundreds of gallons of a liquid in an hour, we can see some of the biggest liquid storage tanks in the factories.

Water, being a universal solvent is something which is found in every place where humans are present. Be it a small hut, a condo, a villa or a factory, there is no place on this planet where a human being spends hours of his daily life and has no water. Water is used for various purposes such as cleaning, washing, drinking, mixing and even for swimming. During the working hours a lot of mess gets inside the production unit and without cleanliness there is no way it can upkeep the cleanliness which is one of the most important aspect to keep the quality high and to keep the workers healthy.

Some of the places where you can see a great use of water are:
  • Textile mills
  • Power generation facilities
  • Food processing plants
  • Beverages factory
  • Bottling plants
  • Automobile assembly plants
  • Paints factories
  • Fertilizer producing units

These are just some of the places where the use of water is great and they require thousands of gallons of water within a week. To maintain such a high demand of a liquid it is important for them to house huge water storage tanks. It is not under discussion here where all this water comes from, but the point here is, if water is unavailable for even a single hour, the work would be affected greatly. The water here is not only used for cleaning, but during the functioning of many machines, huge amounts of water is used to cool off the machines which can become intensely hot. Take example of the power generating machines, they run at such a great speed and the heat which is released from them can easily burn down the entire facility instantly.

To keep the heat under control and to prevent the machines from suffering a seizure, the machines are designed in such a way that water is passed through them or over them during their functioning. The engine of a car is the best example to understand how a machine is cooled off by a liquid during its working. Similarly the water and many other types of coolants are required to keep the machines within an acceptable temperature. But the real task for the staff is about ensuring that the liquids never run dry in their tanks and there is always enough available to keep the machines working. Hence the staff is assigned the task to use the ultrasonic level indicator for measuring every liquid bearing tank every hour. The readings taken by it would determine when the tanks would require a refill and if the liquid levels have dropped much too quickly unintentionally, there is an obvious leak in the tank. It is no surprise that leaks can happen in the storage tanks. The real task is to prevent any kind of disaster once the leak has been found.

The basic precautionary step is to stop the machine connected to the leaking tank instantly. By doing this, the staff gets enough time to find out the location of the leak and to clear the area so that no human may be harmed. Finding the leak can be a tough task because it is not always the tank which is leaking, but the pipes leading from the tank to the production halls can also break or loosen from where they start leaking. No matter where the fault may be, the first affect that happens is inside the liquid storage tank and if there is no liquid level indicator attached to the tank, the leak can never be found out without facing damage.
